One of the more memorable sights in dance music during 2012 was Thomas Gold’s live ‘drum line’ onstage at EDC Vegas and Governor’s Ball, NYC, heightening the electro house producer’s huge sound and epic breakdowns -

No boundaries too bold, no crowd too grand, no pop icon untouchable. This is the ethos that has sent Berlin’s Thomas Gold upon a globetrotting overhaul takeover of modern dance music. Praised for his explosive live sets and faultless studio etiquette, this strong addition to the Axtone clan remains the epitome of an artist giving his all to both sides of the Atlantic.

But such memories are not made overnight. Dropping his first release 2006 and ascending the industry ladder in time for Miami Music Week 2011, trying to box the sound of the uprising German producer has proven a tricky task. Successfully trampling over the concept of genre with signings to Toolroom Records, Phazing, Spinnin’ Records and Size Records alike, his musical dexterity encapsulates the 21st century explosion and its required creative flexibility.

His debut release on Axtone, the sublime instrumental & fan favourite ‘Sing2Me’ sound tracked Miami, hitting the number one spot on Beatport: the 2nd of which for the ‘Berlin Basher’.

Such forward thinking notions were never to be ignored. Already catching the eye of Tiësto and alike, esteemed Axtone head honcho Axwell wasted no time in formally signing him to the imprint. The juicy fruit of this union came in 2012 with the release of his debut compilation album: Axtone Presents Thomas Gold. Collecting an array of solo productions alongside his own personal remixes, mash-ups and a slew of carefully chosen label originals, this eclectic collection of tracks presented in the same nature as his live sets marked the beginning of an essential chapter in his career.

This translation from record to dance floor has proven a vital weapon to Thomas’s untouchable live presence.

His destiny is written in his name, Rudeejay. A passion for Dance music burst out of the blue in the summer of 1998, at the age of 12. Carrying around a cd of the first mixed compilation – the Parade by Albertino, without ever thinking that one day Albertino would broadcast “his” music on the most famous radio show production, Time. He started playing songs for his friends t

o dance to at private parties, creating a spontaneous tam tam that in a few years would see Rudeejay perform in the most in Bologna (Capannina, Chalet delle Rose, Matis, Ruvido). He first received calls to be deejay “resident” and “guest” at the top clubs in the city, then he extended around the region and continued to grow.

Since 2005 Rudeejay continuously performed as deejay at Papeete, a brand destined to follow him wherever he traveled, which began on the beach of the night of mid-August 2006, in which 30.000 people danced to his music. Then he traveled all around Italy, performing at the most famous clubs between Rome (Vogue) and Milan (The Club), moving to (Central) and Versilia (Bussola), running down the sea coast from Rimini (Altromondo) and Riccione () to Porto Recanati (Babaloo), then passing through Costa Smeralda (Phi Beach) to Cortina d’Ampezzo (Belvedere) and Madonna di Campiglio (). He reached the top performing at the world renowned temple of Xueño on the isle of Formentera for two summers in a row. And just in a few years he became the youngest and most popular deejay out of the elite of national rising stars.

The next turning point came naturally, with Rudeejay deciding to become a discography producer: the project ‘Omonimo’ was born in 2008 with the first single “Wanna B Like A Man” featuring , that was successful enough to be found on the legendary compilation Hit Mania Estate 2008. In 2009 he continued on with the same success with ‘E.P.’ including “Two”, which became the made in Italy 12” best seller of the summer, and 2nd in the overall ranking behind David Guetta. Rudeejay was then winner as “Best Italian Producer” at the NightStar Awards 2009, and one year later it was time for the first “single” directly signed as ‘Rudeejay’, “Follow Your Heart”, setting new records in discography and finding itself on more than 20 compilations.

His work at the recording studio brought Rudeejay such emotions as when performing on the console: his remix of Bob Sinclar’s “Sound Of Freedom” even got the approval by the French record company. Then soon he heard his version of Gambafreaks “Natural Woman” broadcast by Albertino on Deejay Time and he felt a flashback – like a dream come true. He would soon have the same feelings while listening to his other remixes, more than 50 in three years, like Deal “Shine” and & Dragonette “Hello”, each time with great success with both crowds and sales, and so at just 25 years of age (born on March 30th 1986) Rudeejay achieved incredible fame.

The enormity of his fame is portrayed through the thousands of followers on social networks and millions of views of his “bootlegs” of the world greatest hits, from Eminem feat. Rihanna “Love The Way You Lie” (580.000) to The Black Eyed Peas “The Time (Dirty Bit)” (430.000). Above all, the fame of millions of boys and girls dancing over the years to music by Rudeejay. Reaching the top on January 29th 2011, as the only deejay opening the Italian gig of Bob Sinclar at Chalet delle Rose in Bologna, performing together on the console where he began his journey eight years ago. When he couldn’t have even dreamt such a destiny as the one written in his name.

Consumando il cd della prima compilation mixata, la Deejay Parade di Albertino, senza poter immaginare che un giorno lo stesso Albertino avrebbe passato proprio i suoi lavori in radio nel Deejay Time. E cominciando a “sovrapporre dischi” per far ballare gli amici nelle feste private, dando inizio a un tam tam spontaneo che in pochi anni avrebbe portato Rudeejay sulle consolle dei principali locali di Bologna (Capannina, Chalet delle Rose, Matis, Ruvido), ottenendo le prime chiamate da “resident” e quindi “guest” nei locali più esclusivi della città e allargandosi in tutta la regione e oltre, con una scalata inarrestabile.

Dal 2005 ininterrottamente deejay del Papeete, un brand destinato ad accompagnarlo ovunque in un viaggio partito sulla spiaggia di Milano Marittima, facendo ballare 30.000 persone la di Ferragosto 2006, per poi esibirsi praticamente lungo tutta la Penisola, nei locali più prestigiosi da Roma (Vogue) a Milano (The Club), toccando Firenze (Central) e la Versilia (Bussola), scendendo la riviera da Rimini (Altromondo) e Riccione (Byblos) a Porto Recanati (Babaloo), passando dalla Costa Smeralda (Phi Beach) a Cortina d’Ampezzo (Belvedere) e Madonna di Campiglio (Des Alpes). Spiccando il volo, fino ad atterrare nel tempio mondiale dello Xueño di Formentera per due estati consecutive, diventato ormai il deejay più giovane e quotato nell’elite di quelli emergenti di caratura nazionale.

La nuova svolta arriva con la naturale decisione di diventare anche produttore discografico: nel 2008 nasce il progetto ‘Omonimo’ con il primo singolo “Wanna B Like A Man” cantato da Simone Jay, un successo tale da entrare nella leggendaria Hit Mania Estate 2008. Bissato nel 2009 dal seguito di ‘E.P.’ che include “Two” e che diventa il 12” made in Italy più venduto dell’estate, 2° assoluto alle spalle di David Guetta, coronato per Rudeejay dal titolo di “Best Italian Producer” ai NightStar Awards 2009. Quella di migliaia di followers sui social network e milioni di visualizzazioni per i suoi “bootlegs” dei grandi successi mondiali, da Eminem feat. When we track down David Guetta in Paris, he’s already been told by his manager about his Top 100 victory.

“I’m very happy of course, I was thinking it was going to be impossible for anybody to replace Armin Van Buuren as No.1,” he chuckles. “I don’t know how many years trance have been No.1?”

DJmag informs David that it’s been almost a decade of trancers at the top, with Armin (four years), Paul van Dyk (twice) and Tiësto (three times) dominating in the noughties. So lots of people in house music and elsewhere may well be pleased, we suggest, that you’ve broken the trance…

“The curse?” he interjects, laughing. “No really, I have a lot of respect for what those guys have done. But I’m happy for myself, and also think that maybe it gives hope to a lot of DJs playing house and electro.”

Winning the Top 100 really does mean a lot to the Frenchman. “I’ve had amazing success as a producer, but I always saw myself first of all as a DJ,” Guetta drawls. “So in the same way that I made a double album where one disc is pop and the other electronic, it’s also very important for me. As much as I want to speak to a wider audience, I still want to speak to my original audience – the clubbers, party people and the DJs. Those who encouraged me, and are my roots.”

Does winning the Top 100 mean more than having a No.1 hit single in America? “Yes it does, because for me it makes me more happy to play an amazing club gig than it does to sell a lot of records,” he says. “Of course I love making music, but DJ culture is everything to me – it’s been my life for so many years.”

It has been an incredible last few years for Guetta, who first started DJing in Paris in the mid-1980s at the age of 17 – pre-house music.

“When I was 17, all my friends were going to clubs because they wanted to pick up girls,” he recalls. “I didn’t care, I was going to clubs because I wanted to listen to the DJ.”

He was a DJ and promoter in and around Paris during the ’80s and ’90s before moving up some levels when he released ‘Just A Little More Love’ in 2001, featuring gospel singer Chris Willis. The club hits and albums kept coming in the noughties, as did the ‘Fuck Me I’m Famous’ compilations – named after his parties in Ibiza – that became a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Electro house track ‘Love Is Gone’ (also with Chris Willis on vocals) was massive for him in 2007, although in the US it wasn’t on the radio much, as mainstream American radio stations didn’t play . “But it was being played in every club – not only house music clubs, but even in clubs that would only normally play hip-hop,” Guetta tells DJmag. “So a lot of urban artists knew that record, without knowing who I was or who Chris Willis was.”

Up until this point, Guetta was making music that he wanted to play as a DJ, “but then musically I started wanting to not only give that physical reaction due to production tricks and how phat the beat is, but also an emotional reaction that comes from chord progressions and melodies,” he says. “When I started to make songs, I loved it and wanted to grow more in that direction.”

It just so happened that former Destiny’s Child singer – and now UK X-Factor judge – Kelly Rowland was in a club in America when Guetta was playing an instrumental version of what became ‘When Love Takes Over’, and she asked him if she could sing on it. The same week, will.i.am called him to ask if he would produce some records for the Black Eyed Peas, because they loved ‘Love Is Gone’ so much. “So I sent them a few beats, and the track became ‘I Got A Feeling’,” he relays.

Soon after, he met Akon at a event and they hooked up to do ‘Sexy Bitch’. “What was interesting is that all of those people thought they would go and do something with David because they love his music, but they never thought it could be really big in America,” he says.

Mainstream US radio didn’t play dance music, but these releases battered down the doors. All three of these records were massive everywhere on release in 2009 (including in the US), and Guetta became the go-to guy for US urban artists to hook up some dope dance beats.

“Because I worked with people that were a ‘brand’ in the US, they gave us a chance,” Guetta believes. “They played it on the radio and they realised that people loved it. They started to realise that the culture was big amongst young people, it was like the new sound in America and everybody started calling me.

“American journalists say to me now ‘You’ve brought this culture to America’, and I say, ‘No, this culture was BORN in America, what are you talking about?’” he continues. “The media had refused to see the culture.”

Guetta broke down the doors in America, and the whole dance scene internationally is benefiting. “It’s been a real revolution,” he declares, “everything is changing. Our sound is taking over the planet.”

David tells DJmag that he is happy that a lot of other big DJ/producers are working with big urban artists now. “Music belongs to everybody, I’m not like ‘Oh, now other people are doing what I was doing’, for me music does not belong to anyone,” he says. “I’m happy that I’ve been opening doors.

“For so many years we haven’t been getting the respect we deserve from the media, the radio, the TV,” he continues. “I think it’s amazing that it’s happening now, I’m really happy – not just for me, but for everyone. Even the trance DJs!”

He may have his detractors, but there’s no doubt that Guetta’s explosion into the mainstream has had a knock-on effect for all of dance music. “People are adding their flavours and it’s coming back to Europe. It’s a very interesting creative circle that is happening these last few years,” he believes. “It’s a very positive thing that doesn’t only benefit people like me who are also producing pop records, it also benefits the underground, which is great.

“Our music is so big at the moment, as simultaneously there are people like me and Tiësto and the Swedish House Mafia who are really crossing over, and at the same time you have this crazy underground scene that is exploding also,” he continues. “The fact that there are so many creative people on this level at the moment makes our music very strong.”

Guetta has just released his fifth album, ‘Nothing But The Beat’, and DJmag asks him about a couple of the tracks on the electronic disc – ‘The Alphabeat’ and ‘Toy Story’ – that have that Daft Punk/Justice sound. He reveals that Thomas Bangalter from Daft Punk really helped him out when he called Virgin Records a decade ago to tell them to sign Guetta’s ‘Just A Little More Love’, as he thought it was really good.

“He was coming to my club when I was playing, and I was looking at him like he was God – I still do, actually,” he says. “But at the time, I was working hard to sound totally not French. I wanted to be different, but now that a long time has passed I think maybe I can sound French and it is OK.”

We then ask him if he considers his track with Swedish hotshot Avicii to be ‘trouse’, but he says he doesn’t really recognise trouse as a genre.

“Genres for me aren’t so important,” he says. “I understand what you mean – bringing the melodic side of trance and putting it into a house music groove, it probably speaks to an even wider audience.

“What’s interesting is that everything is mixing together – lots of DJs have hip-hop influences, trance influences, house influences, electro… and the kids don’t even care, because it’s the internet generation, people listen to all sorts of music,” Guetta continues. “It’s perfect for me because I was always very open-minded, listening to lots of other people’s different stuff, and as much as I was never into trance I appreciated the melodic side of it, the chord progressions – it’s emotional music. That part of that music I always thought was really good, but I didn’t like the drums and the bassline.”

The duality between the pop charts and the underground dance scene doesn’t faze David. “In Ibiza, my parties are a mix of people, but underground culture is the mainstream culture there, and I wish it was like this everywhere on the planet,” he says. “We’re on the way.”

Citing 2ManyDJs, one of his regular guests at the FMIF parties, as a good example of somebody playing “the most underground acid house record and then the biggest pop record – because they just want to play good music, and have fun,” he then adds: “It’s a party! I don’t take myself too seriously. I don’t need to have a day for pop music and a day for club music – it’s the same person. I just wanna have fun, give people a good time, and make good music.

Alla metà degli anni novanta si trasferisce nello studio di produzione di Larry Pignagnoli. Anche se col suo pseudonimo inizia a farsi conoscere già alla fine del 1997 col brano Electric Flying, il suo primo successo internazionale è I Feel So Fine lanciato nel 2001 sotto il nome KMC, cantato da Dhany. Segue un secondo singolo di successo, Satisfaction che raggiunge il secondo posto della classifica dei singoli in Gran Bretagna. Nel 2003 pubblica il suo primo album, Hypnotica sotto il nome “Benny Benassi Presents the Biz”, e l’anno successivo esce Pumphonia sotto il nome “Benassi Bros.”. In quegli anni crea l’etichetta Pump-Kin Music, per dare spazio a DJ poco conosciuti in tutto il mondo. Col nome Benassi Bros., nel 2005 pubblica l’album …Phobia. Nel dicembre dello stesso anno la catena di fast food statunitense Wendy’s utilizza il singolo Satisfaction come colonna sonora per un suo spot pubblicitario. Nel 2007 crea una sub-label della Pump-Kin Music, chiamata Funky Pump-Kin destinata ai DJ e produttori emergenti della scena musicale house/pop/funk/soul. Nell’agosto del 2007 esce il singolo Bring the Noise, una rivisitazione del vecchio successo dei Public Enemy, col quale vince il Grammy Awards nella categoria Best Remix. Nel 2008 esce l’album Rock and Rave. Il 6 settembre dello stesso anno è ospite nella data romana dello Sticky & Sweet Tour di Madonna, tenutosi allo Stadio Olimpico di Roma. Nel 2009 è chiamato a far parte del programma radiofonico Diabolika su radio m2o. Nel 2010 pubblica il singolo Spaceship con la partecipazione vocale di apl.de.ap del gruppo dei Black Eyed Peas e di Kelis. Nel 2011 pubblica con l’album Electroman, il suo singolo Cinema con Gary Go e House Music. Inoltre ha inciso un pezzo insieme al cantante statunitense Chris Brown, intitolato Beautiful People. Debutta all’età di 17 anni. Nel 1996 comincia a organizzare delle serate a Ibiza. Nel 2002 il suo motto “Fuck Me I’m Famous” inizia a diffondersi nel mondo, approfittando della notorietà acquisita con il suo omonimo album. Nel 2005 entra nella classifica dei migliori dj internazionali redatta dal magazine inglese DJ Mag.

Debutta all’età di 17 anni. Nel 1996 comincia a organizzare delle serate a Ibiza. Nel 2002 il suo motto “Fuck Me I’m Famous” inizia a diffondersi nel mondo, approfittando della notorietà acquisita con il suo omonimo album. Nel 2005 entra nella classifica dei migliori dj internazionali redatta dal magazine inglese DJ Mag. Il 17 novembre 2005, va agli Awards a Roma, riportando indietro il premio di miglior dj dell’anno, e quello del miglior pezzo con il mix KissDaFunk. Il 14 luglio 2007 suona a bordo del volo inaugurale Vueling VY 9932 al fianco dell’attore Carlo Cutolo alias dj C9 tra Parigi e Ibiza. David Guetta è sposato con Cathy Guetta. La coppia ha anche due figli: il maschio si chiama Tim Elvis nato nel febbraio del 2004, ed una femmina di nome Angie nata a settembre del 2007. È il fratello di Natalie Guettà divenuta celebre come la perpetua Natalina della serie televisiva Don Matteo. È considerato un idolo dei ragazzi amanti dell’ house. Lavora spesso con Joachim Garraud nella produzione o nel remix di canzoni; i suoi recenti video sono noti per la comparsa della modella Kelly Thybaud. Nelle parti vocali delle proprie canzoni Guetta affida il lavoro molte volte a cantanti come:,Jd Davis e Tara Mc Donald. Frequenta di tutto il mondo, ma in Italia è spesso ospite al Muretto di Jesolo (VE), di Riccione e alla Fanum di Mori (TN)…..

Un pò di notizie sul primo classificato: Armin van Buuren (Leida, 25 dicembre 1976) è un disc jockey e produttore di musica trance olandese. Armin van Buuren, stando alla classifica “” stilata da “”, occupa la prima posizione tra i più quotati al mondo dal 2007, davanti al francese David Guetta. Attualmente trasmette settimanalmente uno show radiofonico XXL chiamato “A State of Trance” (ASOT), trasmesso in più di 40 paesi e con un ascolto medio di 30 milioni di persone. Nel mese di agosto 2010 ha pubblicato un nuovo singolo, Not Giving Up on Love, in collaborazione con Sophie Ellis-Bextor. Il singolo è apripista per l’uscita del nuovo album di Van Buuren, uscito il 10 settembre 2010 Mirage. IL PRIMO ITALIANO lo troviamo solo al 26° posto ed il reggianissimo e italianissimo Benny Benassi: Inizia la carriera come DJ alla fine anni ottanta a Reggio Emilia insieme al cugino Alle Benassi, con cui forma il duo Benassi Bros. Alla metà degli anni novanta si trasferisce nello studio di produzione di Larry Pignagnoli. Nel 2009 è chiamato a far parte del programma radiofonico Diabolika su radio m2o. Nel 2010 pubblica il singolo Spaceship con la partecipazione vocale di apl.de.ap del gruppo dei Black Eyed Peas e di Kelis.
