As a revered producer and successful label head, Marco has spearheaded imprints such as Design Music, Zenit, Question, One Thousands and Do.Mi.No whilst releasing music on a selection of the world’s finest labels such as Minus, Plus 8 2M and Primate Recordings. In addition to five critically acclaimed albums, including his most recent Play It Loud, Marco has also been responsible for a clutch of seminal mix compilations. In 2006, his mix for legendary London club Fabric’s series was a lesson in sleek, future-facing minimalism. That was followed up by well received compilations for Time Warp in 2009. In 2010 Cocoon label boss Sven Väth asked him to mix the Frankfurt based label’s Party Animals CD alongside Nick Curly, which took Carola’s dj taste and skills to new heights.

Famed for his energetic and impressive three-deck style of mixing and long journey set, Marco has remained one of the most in demand DJs on the planet throughout the last two decades. Favoring mammoth eight hour plus sets, Marco is predisposed to a subtle working of the crowd that has made him a favorite among fans from Ibiza to New York, South America and beyond.

Nato a Napoli Marco Carola e’ emerso alla fine degli anni 90 come uno dei piu influenti esponenti della musica techno e elettronica. Gia’ all’eta’ di 13 anni suonava il suo primo kit di batteria, strumento che suono’ per anni prima di cominciare a comprare e suonare dischi.

Durante il 1990, quando la scena House italiana stava vivendo il suo momento d’oro, la batteria fu sostituita da due piatti e un mixer con i quali comincio’ a praticare l’arte del mixaggio e divento’ un dj dei nuovi ritmi House. La transizione verso la techno per Marco Carola comincio’ nel 1993. Con la fine del periodo dell’ Italian House, la techno offriva una nuova ed eccitante occasione di creare suoni mai sentiti prima di allora.

La sua abilita’ nel mixare e il suo cresciente talento nella produzione in studio fece si che molti artisti si rivolgessero a lui come produttore. Tra le varie uscite piu’ orientate verso la House e’ riuscito anche a produrre un 12” per i MAW (Master at Work). Nel 1996 fondò la “Design Music”, etichetta che divento’ la prima label italiana unicamente di techno. Dopo di essa, Carola fondo’ nel 1998 la 1000 records.

Nel 1998 portava avanti il suo primo tour Australiano seguito da numerosi tour in Nord America dove il suo unico stile di mixare con tre piatti lo rese uno dei piu richiesti dj techno del momento. Nel gennaio 1998 si unì a Corrado Izzo e fondò la Zenit e la Question come parte della ELP, etichetta che produceva gia’ numerosi dj/producers da tutto il mondo.

They say excellence should be rewarded. Just as well, then, that Space Ibiza has been voted to the top of this poll for the second year in a row. And quite rightly, too.

From its high-powered Funktion One soundsystem to those exuberant displays of slinky, silver Lycra-clad dancers on stilts, Space presents a level of clubbing professionalism other nightclubs only dream of. Nitrogen lunar blasts, hi-res LED screens and retina-frying lasers across a series of rooms, each imbued with their own unique sense of identity, but slotted perfectly into the overall picture of this well-oiled clubbing complex.

The Terrace, a space-age cauldron swirling with woozy energy; the Discoteca, for those looking for an explosive big-room beyond any other; Sunset Terrace and its steamy terracotta haze, and La Salon and Red Box’s hidden back room intimacy. It’s got everything. Not forgetting, the enormous car park opened only for opening and closing, complete with confetti explosions on a stage armed with a stack of Funktion Ones powerful enough to bring down a fighter plane. The entire package is guaranteed exceptional, and, for some, the only reason to make a yearly trip to Ibiza.

The technicalities aside, the DJs that play, residents such as Carl Cox, Roger Sanchez, Nick Curly and James Zabiela, speak of something other than hard facts, something more universal; a feeling of inclusion, spiritual involvement with the family ethos of the club, something garnered by Pepe Rosello and his carefully-nurtured team, a vibe that transcends the staff and bleeds onto the dancefloor.

“I love to play at Space,” says Spanish house giant Uner. “First of all, because the crew is, for me, like a family. I always love the good vibes there. Space was my first gig. I’m in love with the club, the party and the people.”

These are the same sentiments shared by Carl Cox (see box out), who celebrated the 11th year of his Revolution party last season, and looks forward to another. It’s the considered, tightly programmed flagship nights like this that make Space so special. Something for absolutely everyone with an ear for a decent beat. Nick Curly’s Kehakuma, Armin’s Be and We Love, just a few nights that make Ibiza what she is – a bonafide haven for undisputed clubbing excellence. And Space Ibiza is where to find it.
