Dj & Producer, Joey Negro è lo pseudonimo più conosciuto del dj producer inglese Dave Lee il cui sound è influenzato dalla disco e dal funky. Ma altri nomi d’arte si nascondono dietro ai suoi progetti: Sessomato Doug Willis, Z Factor, Raven Maize, ma soprattutto quello di Jakatta con cui ha firmato pezzi come “American dream”, colonna sonora del film American Beauty e “My vision”.Dave Lee, artisticamente Joe Negro, nato nell’isola di Wight, si appassiona giovanissimo alla disco, coltivando per il genere una devozione che rimarrà alla base di ogni suo futuro coinvolgimento nella musica. Si trasferisce a Londra nel 1986 dove, dopo aver lavorato in un negozio di dischi, passa a occuparsi di Demix, il distributore dance della Rough trade, attraverso il quale lancia nell’88 la sua prima etichetta, la Republic. Il suo primo “12 come Joey Negro, Do It, Believe It, glielo pubblica nel 1990 la prestigiosa label newyorkese Nu Groove. E i primi ’90 rappresentano la consacrazione, con il lancio della nuova etichetta Z Records e con la produzione della versione di Relight My fire cantata dai Take That, una grossa hit che lo allontana però dall’attenzione degli appassionati di house: non tanto per una questione di purismo e prevenzioni, ma perché il suo suono in quel periodo sembra degenerare verso una radiofonicità spicciola. In realtà Joey Negro non perde di vista l’underground, e questo diventerà chiaro verso la fine degli anni ’90 e all’inizio del 2000, quando con alias come Sessomatto, akabu, Raven Maize e Jakatta produce bombe da club accessibili ma mai populiste (anche se quando deve compilare l’album come Jakatta cade nel macchiettiamo soft-house). Non perderà mai di vista la sua storica passione per la discomusic, rielabora direttamente in chiave house con le sofisticate produzioni della Sunburst Band, dove milita anche il suo storico tastierista Michele Chiavarini, e di cui sarà appasionatissimo divulgatore nelle tante compilation di classici oscuri supervisionate.

I was born in a small village in the east of Ukraine to a normal family. Nobody was a musician in my family and there was no opportunity to obtain musical education. But I loved to dance and danced well.

Through all my school years I was involved in social activities, I took part in school activities and was very active and enthusiastic.

I have two older sisters, who lived in the near by city – Donetsk. I visited them every two weeks and this is where my first visit to nightclubs happened. This is where I realized what I wanted and everything came into focus…

I finished school in my dear little village and then went on to the university of Donetsk to the Marketing faculty.

I immediately found my first job as a dancer in the best club of the city. After some time, this was not enough anymore, and I wanted to move forward, so I began to spin. That was 2005….

In 2006 was the first time I came to Kazantip. Since then many things have changed. I changed.
I worked in Kazantip since 2006 until 2011, playing in different parties, managing the studio of the infamous KISS FM radio station, where I also have my own radioshow. Now this weekly radioshow of mine is called ‘Propaganda’, which is also the name for my new label, launched recently in 2013.

Since 2009 I have been touring frequently. The last three years I have had no free weekends. I have played in many cities throughout Europe and further abroad to Japan, North Africa, South America, Mauritius. In Russia and Ukraine I am performing less now.

For a short time I also worked as a promoter, organizing my own parties. Later on I just decided to work on one event once a year together with the team Feeleed from Odessa. This event, which we make together is my birthday party, where my friends and close artists gather from all over the world.

I have never been a resident of any club, but recently this changed; I simply could not resist the offer from Arma17 and since 2010 I am their resident and this is a big honor for me.

Arma17 is something unique. I can not even a club, it’s just so much more. It’s much more important, more interesting and complete. It’s one of a kind in the whole world and it’s my second home. Soon after I also joined the Feeleed family, they became my family in Ukraine.

I am not a producer. I am a true DJ. I am one of a few, who builds their music career through the performance of DJ’ing. I spend time in the studio over the last 2 years, but for now there is still not enough to present for your musical pleasure. Although producing doesn’t really interest me – I know that my best skill is at mixing records.

In 2011 the first release was made of mine and Sasha’s (Alexander Pavlenko / Sunchase) collaboration named ‘He & She’ on the label Musik Gewinnt Freunde. Until today it’s our only release, because we are both busy at the moment. There is little time left for studio for me, so I use this time to producer under the name ‘Nastia’.

Recently I was part of the Bullitt Agency. We worked together just one year. But circumstances forced this to end and my decision was to continue on my own, how I always worked before.

I love my hobby, which transformed into my profession and my way of life during recent years. My aim is to see as many people as possible on the dancefloor and to dance with them, leading the mood with what unites us all – music. I am what I do.

Cosa significa nascere e crescere musicalmente in un paese come Israele?

Bisogna crescere qui per capire che cosa significa realmente la fratellanza e la famiglia. Influenzano tutti gli aspetti della vita, compresa la musica.

Frequentare una scuola di musica ha senz’altro dato un grosso aiuto per la tua crescita. Quali erano le tue aspettative da giovane? Ti saresti mai immaginato di diventare un top dj?

Ci speravo sempre, era il mio unico obiettivo da quando avevo 12 anni e non posso essere non essere felice ora che mi viene data la possibilità di suonare la mia musica in tutto il mondo.

Poi la solita gavetta, tra piccole feste e primi clubs. Come tutti insomma hai dovuto farti le ossa. Pensi sia anche questo un passo importante per maturare?

Certo, crescere attraverso la gavetta offre l’opportunità di esplorare la musica da molti punti di vista e io sono felice di aver cominciato dalla “strada”, e non direttamente dalle sale principali dei grandi club. La musica è parte delle mie radici.

Il tuo approccio musicale è molto vario. Alle evidenti radici techno affianchi molto spesso anche altri generi, come electronica, downtempo o jazz. Quali erano i tuoi generi e artisti preferiti nell’adolescenza e quali invece hai scoperto solo più tardi?

Io faccio soltanto musica, non sono legato ai vari generi, non ho alcuna linea guida in studio, mi impegno e butto giù qualche beat. Non credo di aver scoperto alcun genere, è tutto lì da sempre .

Come anticipato prima, la tua ascesa è stata lenta ma alla fine ripagante. Stampare su label come Cocoon, Ovum, R&S, Objectivity, Renaissance. Nel 2008 sei stato nominato “Beatport’s Artist of the year” e hai pure ricevuto la nomination per Dj Awards. Che effetto ti ha fatto vedere accostato il tuo nome alla storia affianco agli dj internazionali?

Ho gran rispetto per i ragazzi della vecchia scuola, sono stati loro ad iniziare tutto. E’ un grande onore per me essere accostato a loro, ma sono una persona con i piedi per terra, non credo molto nei miracoli. Quello che ho vissuto è il risultato di duro lavoro e costanza nel mio percorso.

Sea Of Sand, After Love, and Tel Aviv Garden ma soprattutto la traccia che ti ha fatto conoscere a tutti, ossia “Freakside” sono alcuni dei tuoi grandi successi sui quali hai puntato moltissimo. Vuoi svelarci come si svolge il tuo lavoro in studio?

Sembra strano, ma non ho davvero idea. Dipende molto dal mio stato d’animo quotidiano e dalle varie sensazioni (forti, deboli, profonde) che ho in quel momento. Mi faccio trasportare da questo flusso e cerco di non ostinarmi a creare per forza un determinato suono o genere.

Sentiamo parlare sempre più frequentemente di plagi musicali. Anche tu hai dovuto difenderti nel 2008 da questa accusa accaduta con “Efrat”. Cosa ti senti di rispondere a chi accosta il tuo nome ancora a quell’episodio?

Non mi va di rispondere a nessuno, preferisco usare il mio tempo condividendo amore e non odio. All’inizio l’ho presa abbastanza male, ma poi ho fatto in modo di rispondere soltanto attraverso le casse. Da quel momento in poi ho realizzato Sketches, Groove Mechanism, Slow Dancer e molte altre tracce; sono stati tutti grandi successi e ora penso non abbia più senso parlare di questo episodio tre anni dopo.

Su Ovum hai rilasciato anche l’album “Chicago Days, Detroit Nights”. Cosa lo differenzia dai tuoi progetti singoli?

Oh .. E’ molto differente, anche se posso dire che il mio album è composto da più progetti singoli, nel senso che la maggior parte dei brani sono progetti autonomi e non legati tra loro. Ancora una volta, la mia sensazione era quelle di rilasciare tracce specifiche piuttosto che pianificare la classica struttura dell’album.

Visto il numero in costante aumento di aspiranti dj, sei d’accordo nel ritenere oggi più importante la figura del producer piuttosto che quella del dj?

Purtroppo hai ragione. Io personalmente mi ritengo prima un dj che un produttore. E’ da 17 anni ormai che faccio il dj, ma hai perfettamente ragione a dire che ormai ci si esibisce e si ha diversi fan al seguito soprattutto per le produzioni piuttosto che per i set o per l’abilità nel mixare. Oltre a questo, il posto in classifica diventa la cosa più importante in assoluto per avere visibilità. Il che è triste in quanto lascia fuori molti produttori che producono con il cuore piuttosto che per i soldi.

Nei festival che contano, il tuo nome compare sempre (basti pensare al prossimo Movement di Detroit). Questo significa che negli anni sei stato in grado di confermare il tuo valore. Quanto è difficile dimostrare a tutti di non essere una meteora?

I festivals sono sempre divertenti, personalmente preferisco i piccoli clubs rispetto ai grandi palcoscenici, ma in quelle occasioni incontro sempre molti amici e ho la possibilità di frequentarmi con loro. DEMF è un festival incredibile e sono felicissimo di prenderne parte.

A proposito di festival, quale tra i tanti in cui hai partecipato, secondo te merita più attenzione e ricordi con maggior piacere?

Mmm… Bella domanda. Devo ammettere che i miei ricordi migliori sono sempre legati ai club, con un ambiente più intimo è sempre indimenticabile…

Come tanti artisti, hai ritenuto opportuno creare la tua etichetta, la Be as One. Sono passati ormai alcuni anni dal lancio dell’etichetta, se tu dovessi fare un bilancio ti ritieni soddisfatto del lavoro fatto finora?

Sta andando alla grande, siamo molto soddisfatti sia io che Nick (il label manager) del modo in cui è cresciuta l’etichetta negli ultimi anni. Rilasciamo la musica che ci piace, come in studio, senza linee guida, dando spazio soltanto alla musica e all’anima.

Abbiamo appena ammirato l’ultimo tuo ep con Dj Sneak e i vari remix del tuo album con i vari Nic Fanciulli, Josh Wink, Michel Cleis, Steve Lawler, Chris Liebing, Santos & Timo Maas. Cosa dobbiamo aspettarci nei prossimi mesi da te e dalla tua etichetta?

Per prima cosa, vorrei ringraziare i miei meravigliosi amici che hai appena citato, i quali hanno creato grandissimi remixes. Abbiamo intenzione di rilasciarli dividendoli in due parti nel corso dei prossimi due mesi e subito dopo rilascerò un nuovo ep su Be As One, del quale sono molto entusiasta. Per quanto riguarda l’etichetta, oltre al mio ep di cui parlavo sopra, rilasceremo altra grandissima musica con Gel Abril, Itamar Sagi e diversi altri produttori emergenti ed affermati.

When we think of Shlomi Aber we immediately juxtapose his name to the great successes that have marked his hit Freakside onwards. But that serious face hides the reality of a man who has always believed in music and in the chance to become a big artist. Like many djs, the road ahead was long but he finally arrived at the finish line receiveing deserved rewards. The hardest challenge to confirm his value over the years and to reply to various criticisms have seen once again victorious, with many hits and a new album. Now Shlomi is going hard with his own label, Be as One, and enjoy well-deserved chance in his beloved clubs and big festivals all over the world.

Hi Shlomi, welcome to Soundwall.it. Let’s start from the beginning. What does it mean for you to be born and grow musically in a country like Israel?

You need to grow up here to understand what does brotherhood and family means, it’s influencing you all over the life aspects,including music.

You attended a school of music, and this has certainly given a big help for your growth. What were your expectations as a young man? Would you have never dreamed of becoming a top DJ?

Always. It was my only goal since I was 12 years old and I can’t be more happy with the chance given to play my music to people all over the world.

You rose through the ranks, including small parties and first dj set in the clubs. Do you think this is also an important step to mature?

Of course, growing up from the real base giving you the opportunity to explore music from many angles, I’m happy I started from the “streets”, and not directly to the main rooms. The music is part of my roots.

Your approach to music is various. The obvious techno roots often are mixed with other genres such as electronica, downtempo or jazz. What were your favorite artists and genres in adolescence and what genres you discovered later?

I’m making music, not genres. I don’t have any guideline in the studio, just going with the soul and throwing beats in the air, I don’t think there is any discovered genres, it has all been there since ever.

As mentioned before, your musical climb was slow but rewarding at the end with releases on labels like Cocoon, Ovum, R & S, Objectivity, Renaissance. In 2008 you were selected as Beatport’s Artist of the year 2008 and also received a nomination for the prestigious Worldwide DJ Awards. What effect to see your name near to international DJs who made the history of this music?

I’m sharing a lot of respect to the old school guys who started it all. It is a great honor. I’m very a “earthbound ” person, I’m not a big believer in miracles, it is just a product of a lot of hard work and consistence in your way.

Sea Of Sand, After Love and Tel Aviv Garden but above all, the track that made you known to all: “Freakside”, these are all your great successes on which you have bet a lot. Do you want to tell us how is developed your work the studio?

Its funny, but I have no idea. It depends in my daily mood and feelings, hard, soft, deep or mellow. I’m just going with the flow and not fighting myself to create a certain sound or genre .

We hear increasingly of musical plagiarism. In 2008 even you had to defend this accusation happened with your track “Efrat.” What do you reply to those who continue to tie your name with that episode?

I’m actually not replaying at all, I prefer to spend my time sharing love and not hate. I got it quite hard at the beginning, but I’m way past that and I’m just replying back trough the speakers, since then I released Sketches, Groove Mechanism, Slow Dancer and more, they all been big hits and i’m feeling there is no point to keep dealing with it 3 years after.

You have also released an album on Ovum, “Chicago Days, Detroit Nights.” What are differences (settings, approach,ecc.) from a single project?

Oh, it’s a big difference , even though my album is more ” single based” in the way that most of the tracks are individuals rather a full story, I just once again went with the feeling of releasing those specific tracks rather planned a certain album structure.

We see the ever-growing number of aspiring DJs, you agree that today the producer is more important than DJ to show your skills?

Unfortunately you’re right. Personally I’m first a dj then a producer, being djing for 17 years now, but you are right that these days you’re performing and have fans following you mostly because of the productions rather than your dj sets and mixing. More to this, charting place become more important then ever in order to be visible, which is sad as it is limiting allot of producers out there to produce from the heart rather from the bucks.

Your name always appears in the all the biggest festivals (just think of Movement Festival in Detroit). How hard is it to confirm the value over the years?

Festivals is always fun, personally I prefer the small rooms rather than the big stages, but you always meet allot of friends and having the chance to hang around. Demf its amazing festival and i’m very happy to be part of it.

About festivals you had the chance to play, what among all do you think deserves more attention and what do you remember with good memories?

Mmm…good question. Must to admit that my best memories are always from clubs, intimate crowd is always unforgettable.

As many artists and producers, you create your own label, Be as One. Now it’s been several years since the launch of your label, are you satisfied for these first years?

It is going amazing, i’m very happy with the way the label growth over the past years, both me and Nick (the label manager) are just releasing music we like, same as in the studio, no guidelines, just going with the music and the soul.

We’ve just enjoy your last ep with Dj Sneak and your album remixes from Nic Fanciulli, Josh Wink, Michel Cleis, Steve Lawler, Chris Liebing, Santos & Timo Maas and more. What can we expect in the coming months from you and from your label?

Firstly I want to thank to my wonderful friends you just mentioned who delivered such a great pack of remixes, we going to release those in 2 parts over the next couple of months, right after I will release new ep on Be As One, which i’m very excited about. On the label side, as addition to mine mentioned above, we will relase super cool music from Gel Abril, Itamar Sagi and some other great new and established producers.

In the mid-late 70′s, kenny Carpenter was in ever-present attendance when the NYC underground gay club scene emerged from It’s womb of rhythmic integration. As an original “Brooklyn Boy” he watched, listened and began lurking for the turntables. At that point he made a plan! Some of his biggest idols at the time included the likes of Nicky Siano, Tee Scott, Walter Gibbons, Larry Levan, Larry Patterson and David Mancuso.

In the 80′s Kenny Carpenter’s early club experiences lead to his employment as a light technician at the then famous “Galaxy 21” on West 23rd Street, and “The Inferno” on West 19th Street in NYC. Still hungry for the turn-tables he moved on to spinning records first in small venues, and then inevitably to a Saturday Night Residency in the forever famous, infamous, and world renowed “STUDIO 54” on West 54th Street. After the closing ofStudio 54, Kenny was hired as the Saturday Night Resident DJ in a venue the size of an airplane hanger, the 5,000 person capacity Bond’s International Casino on West 45th Street in the heart of Times Square! His resulting popularity and increasing fame led to international opportunities in countries such as Israel, France, Spain and England spinning regular guest spots at what was and still is the most famous club in London, The Ministry Of Sound.

Some of his then biggest contemporaries, and still friends to this day, includeFrancois Kevorkian, Frankie Knuckles, David Morales, Little Louie Vega, and Tedd Patterson. He has been long time friends and enjoyed many collaborations with recording artists the likes of Anthony Malloy, Kenny Bobien, and Strafe. He continues to produce and , where possible, forge creative relationships with artists such as Wendy Lewis, Madonna, Jennifer Holiday, Michael Jackson, Robin S., and Majestic K. Funk.

In Manchester (UK), Ben cut his teeth with many years running and DJ-ing for a successful night and is now producing records with an ever filling gig diary. With a childhood spent enjoying heavy metal and pop punk, he moved into electronic music in his late teens.

A remix for swedish band Sailor & I was released for a free download via his facebook page in June, and several other tracks are poking their way out onto the circuit including a follow up release on Under The Shade “Just Enough”.

In late 2011, Ben was made Creative Director at Purp & Soul; an already established brand by friend Chris Farnworth. Together they have formed a label/agency which is going from strength to strength forging family ties with 6 artists so far on the roster. Showcases have sold out in this country and abroad and their label continues to build momentum.

Stefano Gambarelli aka Gambafreaks è un dj e produttore emiliano che da anni calca la scena dance musicale italiana e internazionale.
Ha deciso di intraprendere questa attività per passione, per pura passione, affascinato dai primi dj del genere afro funky, Mozart, Daniele Baldelli & Co…
Gambafreak, al secolo Stefano Gambarelli, è uno dei DJ e Produttori di musica House più prolifici e conosciuti all’estero. Molti suoi dischi sono stati dei veri e propri successi nei Clubs d’ oltrefrontiera e gli artisti che sono stati remixati dal Disc-Jockey emiliano non si contano nemmeno più.
Inizia la sua carriera da DJ nel 1982 a Reggio Emilia. Ha iniziato a produrre dischi nel 1989 collaborando anche con la mitica Groove Groove Melody, etichetta storica dei Black Box. Ora produce stabilmente, ormai da qualche anno, con la D:Vision, etichetta House del gruppo Energy di Ugolini e Raimondi.
Il successo italiano è stato soprattutto legato ai Club, all’estero ovviamente il discorso è diverso, il disco è stato licenziato da molte labels e pare sia andando molto bene. Se volete qualche nome delle labels che lo hanno stampato, si può citare la Air Play francese e la tedesca ZYX.

Nato a Mantova nel 1976, è un dj produttore italiano. Il suo sound unisce ritmo e melodia; Marchi l’ha definito semplicemente “house moderna” ed è ormai un riferimento per i colleghi, in Italia e non. Prima di intraprendere l’attività di dj a tempo pieno è stato per un breve periodo modello e per breve tempo elettricista. Il dj è anche testimonial di brand e magazine come GQ, Papeete, Match Music Magazine. Collabora con molti remixer come Maurizio Nari & Ronnie Milani, Gianluca Motta e molti altri. Cristian Marchi cura molto i rapporti con i suoi tanti fan e la sua immagine.
Alla fine del 2007 è uscito “We are perfect”, brano cantato da Dot/comma, è il primo successo di Marchi come produttore discografico. Nei primi mesi del 2008 il brano viene pubblicato anche all’estero riscuotendo successo soprattutto in Australia, Polonia e Spagna.
Il secondo singolo, pubblicato ad aprile 2008, è Love Sex American Express, con sonorità molto simili al primo singolo. Il brano ha contribuito ad aprire a Marchi le porte del clubbing internazionale. La canzone è stata infatti molto ballata nelle discoteche di tutta Europa e pure uno dei brani più ballati dell’estate e di tutto il 2008. È arrivato al primo posto delle classifiche dance in Italia e Spagna.
Nel novembre 2008 nasce un progetto parallelo chiamato Marchi’s Flow. La prima canzone che Marchi pubblica con questo pseudonimo è Feel The Love cantata da Miss Tia. Il singolo entra nella Top 10 dei brani più scaricati dai digital shops a pochi giorni dall’uscita e arriva ai primi posti della chart francese.
Passano non molti mesi e Cristian Marchi pubblica un altro singolo: Disco Strobe cantato da Dot/comma, cantante di We are perfect. La traccia arriva ai primi posti delle chart italiana dei brani più ballati ed entra pure nelle classifiche in Polonia e in Spagna.
Nel corso del 2009, Marchi remixa alcuni pezzi dance di altri artisti, come Disco Nuff di Nari & Milani, In The Music dei Deepswing, Hands Up Everybody di Pain & Rossini.
Ad ottobre, assieme a Paolo Sandrini e al duo di m2o Nari & Milani, viene pubblicato un nuovo singolo: Let It Rain con Max C come cantante. Le sonorità di questo singolo si distaccano completamente dai precedenti singoli di Marchi.
Il nuovo decennio viene inaugurato da Marchi con la canzone Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood in collaborazione con Gabry Ponte, Sergio D’Angelo e con la voce di Andrea Love. Il brano, sullo stile dei primi singoli di Marchi, ha un buon successo nelle discoteche in primavera. Nel frattempo il DJ, tornato in contatto con Nari & Milani, fa uscire una canzone intitolata I Got My Eye On You, cantata da Luciana Caporaso.
Tra i nuovi brani di Marchi, I Got You cantato da Max C, anche se inizialmente doveva essere cantata da Chris Willis (progetto poi naufragato), la cui uscita è avvenuta il 22 ottobre 2010 tramite il sito Beatport, con remix di TV Rock e altri famosi deejay-producer internazionali e Back To The Jungle in collaborazione con Alex Guesta, deejey-producer milanese.
Il nuovo singolo Love Comes Rising, ultimato ad ottobre 2010 con la collaborazione di Gianluca Motta e cantato da Jd Davis, è uscito il 14 giugno 2011 sotto etichetta “Violence Rec/Ego” tramite Beatport, ed è uscito su iTunes il 17 giugno e il 22 giugno su CD’s. . Con l’uscita di “Love Comes Rising” Cristian Marchi & Paolo Sandrini inaugurano la loro etichetta “Violence Rec – A Delicious Record”
Il nuovo singolo Take Me To The Stars prodotto con la collaborazione di Nari & Milani cantato da Shena su etichetta Ego, è uscito il 3 maggio 2011 su Beatport, il 6 maggio su iTunes e il 10 maggio 2011 su CDs. Inoltre è in progetto un’altra nuova produzione dal titolo U Turn Me On, con la collaborazione di Gianluca Motta e Motiv8.
Sono stati ultimati anche nuovi remix, ma non sono ancora stati annunciati.
Il singolo U Got Me Rockin’, con la collaborzione di Syke ‘n’ Sugarstarr e Lisa Millet è uscito il 18 Novembre 2011 tramite Beatport e iTunes su etichetta “Violence Rec”.
Il 06/12/2011 è uscito il suo primo album che si chiama “We are perfect”.
Nel 2012, torna in collaborazione con Nari&Milani per un nuovo singolo cantato da Shena dal titolo “Love Will Conquer All”, la cui uscita è avvenuta il 15 Marzo su iTunes.

31 years old Luca Dorigo has been one of the
most requested italian celerity dj’s for a long time.
He plays engaging house music and his dj sets are full of energy. When
he’s in the booth, he’s focused on one thing: making them all jump, with
the latest hits and even with innovative music. Luca uses 3 cd players
and does some tricky stuff, but he loves to let the tracks ‘breath’ too,
as it happens in the best clubs of the world. He says: “I think that sooner or later I’ll begin to use computer, it will let me create live music
in the booth. But I love the dj’s ritual of searching for the right record”.
His tv background is well know in Italy, as ha took part for years to some
of the most important broadcasts and reality shows. Not everyone instead
knows that Luca already had the idea to take advantage of his fame to launch
himself into his greatest passions, music and djing. He says: “I’ve always
gone clubbing for the music. All the other things are only a consequence”.
Luca has arrived in the booth after mixing with people for a lifetime. At 20 years old, he had a well paid office job, but for him it wasn’t enough. He wanted
to have have fun by making other people have fun. So, after a summer spent
as a lifeguard in Jesolo, near Venezia, his hometown, he left for California,
for an experience of surfing and parties that soon became a way of life. He
says: “I’ve been working for a long time in high level bars and restaurants,
having experiences which event today help me when I’m in the booth”.
During 2012 we will see new records, where Luca has been working hard but without pressure and there will also be important roles in films. From his experience in the Usa, Luca learned that an artist
can do many different things, but he has to work hard to be well prepared. Just like in sports, a big passion for him. One thing’s for sure,
for him being a dj isn’t just work. He says: “I don’t know if in ten years time I’ll still be djing in clubs. But I’m sure that I’ll still be doing it
for my friends and my family… Because I love music too much!”.

Un “Paisà” con la valigia piena di dischi. Marco Carola è un fiero figlio di Napoli, ma come molti suoi compaesani ha avuto giusto riconoscimento del suo estro in terra straniera. Entrò in discoteca per la prima volta tredici anni, ignaro che in pochi anni sarebbe diventato uno dei nomi di punta della M-us, una delle top label dell’elettronica mondiale.A Napoli,dove la tradizione dell’ house è forte quasi quanto quella della fabbricazione dei presepi, Marco diventa uno dei migliori esponenti del genere, ma col passare degli anni decide di seguire trend del momento, il quale lo porta ad inoltrarsi nel mondo della techno. Migliaia di ore in studio e in consolle in giro per l’Italia, un percorso di crescita che via via si fa sempre più definito. Se il Vesuvio fosse attivo la metà di quello che è stato Marco negli anni 90, Bertolaso avrebbe un bel grattacapo da risolvere. Lo dimostra l’elenco cronologico delle etichette da lui create a cavallo fra il 90 e primi anni del 2000 (Zenit, Design, Question, 1000, Do.Mi.No.). Nel 1998 porta avanti i suo primo tour Australiano seguito da numerosi tour in Nord America.Sempre nel’98 si trasferisce a Francoforte poter imporre con più facilità il suo stile unico di djing (a tre piatti, abilità che lo rende richiestissimo dai club di mezzo mondo) e gestire le sue etichette discografiche in un ambiente lavorativo uso ai suoni di cui è alla ricerca.Nel 2001 si sposta a Londra ove pubblica il suo primo ‘vero’ album, “Open System”, un disco che svela al mondo, anche se il mondo in fondo già lo sapeva, il suo talento e la sua concezione globale della musica, una visione che abbraccia tutte le sfaccettature della musica elettronica. In terra tedesca viene invece a contatto con Hawtin e tutta la scuderia M-nus, della quale entra a far parte. Dopo aver pubblicato “Play it loud” nel 2010, full lenght che ha riscosso un successo planetario, Marco è tornato Napoli, resosi conto di quanto la scena elettronica si sia evoluta e raffinata tra i suoi compaesani. Una Napoli in cui purtroppo riesce a vivere poco, essendo diventato uno dei nomi più richiesti della M-nus nonché headliner in tutti i festival di mezzo mondo. Quanta strada ha fatto questo guaglione.

As disco reached its shimmering apex in the late 1970s, young Dusseldorf-born Thomas relocated to Frankfurt with his family. His parents plied him with vinyl compilations, and as a nine-year-old he succumbed to disco’s seductive charms, beginning a lifelong commitment to crate digging and vinyl collection. Thomas’ budding obsession moved through disco and hi-nrg, to the burgeoning sounds of early American rap & hiphop music, and finally to electro-funk, the beloved genre that has left an indelible imprint on all of DJ T.’s own productions. It was love at first listen, and driven by the sounds of seminal protagonists like Afrika Bambaataa, Planet Patrol, Newcleus and Mantronix, Thomas took up breakdancing, compelled to move by the genre’s urgent funk and infectious beats.

Donning a new pseudonym – DJ T. – his career behind the decks began in earnest at private parties, soon leading to his first professional gig in Frankfurt. After playing for a range of clubs around the city, T. soon found himself swept away by the powerful current of acid house that had engulfed Frankfurt with the opening of Sven Väth’s Omen in 1988. T. gravitated toward early house, EBM and techno, and secured his first DJ residency at legendary spot Music Hall. Throughout the 1990s, he was booked at all of the city’s essential clubs, including long lasting residencies at Plastik, Dorian Gray and The Box; by the end of that decade, Frankfurt, one of Europe’s epicentres of electronic dance music, had become indelibly linked with the name ‘DJ T.’

In 1989, T. founded the influential German-language magazine Groove. T.’s intention, in his own words, was to “create a magazine that would meet my own needs. I assumed there were many others with similar needs out there.” He was right. To this day, it remains as one of Germany’s most important publications for electronic music, and in addition to serving as Groove’s publisher and editor for fifteen years, T. also contributed to anthologies on club music, such as Localiser 1.0 and Techno.

At the end of the millennium, after years spent coordinating events and club nights, T. felt impelled to bring his own club vision to life. In 1999, T. and his friend Patrik Dechent opened Monza, an intimate club situated in Frankfurt’s city centre. In his capacity as resident DJ and musical director, T. played a decisive role in shaping the profile of the Frankfurt hotspot and its Ibizan satellite, before parting ways with Monza five years after its inception.

In 2002, T. and five of his friends started their own label, Get Physical Music. Within ten single releases, the label had forged an international reputation that took in far beyond its German base; it reached #4 in the annual Groove reader’s poll of 2004, and claimed the coveted ‘label of the year 2005’ award from British clubbing bible DJ Mag. Established by six seasoned veterans of electronic music and club culture, the label collective included DJ and production team Patrick Bodmer and Philipp Jung (M.A.N.D.Y.), producers Walter Merziger and Arno Kammermeier (Booka Shade) and studio owner Peter Hayo. Focusing his attention on A&R responsibilities, T. tirelessly scoured the scene for new talent and mentored label signees, all the while developing as an artist in his own right. Four years after inking Get Physical, its sister label Kindisch was founded. Dedicated to deepness, Kindisch was T.’s playground and he played accordingly, driving its dancefloor identity, and honing in on what he labelled the ‘minimal booty house’ sound.

T.’s production debut, Monsterbaze, with Steve Bug, graced the latter’s Pokerflat imprint in 2000, and since that time he has notched up releases on Moodmusic, 20:20 Vision, Kindisch, plus twenty 12’’ singles for Get Physical. In 2005 T. unleashed his first album Boogie Playground, a reverential collection that paid homage to T.’s past, and the strands of early club music that shaped his future. In 2009 his sophomore longplayer The Inner Jukebox was rapturously received; a co-production with Thomas Schumacher, his second longplayer is an assured work, and a singular, accomplished statement that reflects T.’s ongoing interest in rigorously re-inventing classic sounds for modern ears and dancefloors. Koch’s additional talents as a remixer have not gone unnoticed. His reworks of acts for labels like ArtofDisco, Yellow, 20:20 Vision, Simple and Naked Music have moved critics and crowds alike.

In 2006, Berlin daily TAZ remarked of T.’s first commercially available DJ mix, Body Language Vol. 2: “Koch combines tracks from the most varied of genres…triggering the most disparate of euphoria-soaked locations, he touches on the different waveforms of twenty years of party bliss.” T.’s famed selector skills took him to even loftier heights in 2010 with fabric 51, his celebrated instalment for the venerated British mix series, and a fantastically diverse and intricate mix full of sharp twists and unexpected turns, otherworldly soundscapes and deep elegance.

Whether DJing in his hometown of 5 years, Berlin, gigging internationally, T.’s sets are invariably stirring and extraordinarily varied. T. is no style fascist, nor is he a slave to trends; he is a bass- and groove-addicted club historian, with a firm grasp of the contemporary. His sets turn 25 years of electronic music history into one finely rendered journey, transforming the links between genres and ages into a truly physical experience, whether he’s capturing the peaktime party spirit, or sending early morning crowds into veritable delirium with one of his famed marathon excursions. T. embarked on an exhaustive 9-month world tour in the summer of 2009 with The Inner Jukebox, and drew on his journalistic background to document the experience, writing a weekly tour diary for online electronic music magazine Beatportal. Invigorated and inspired by his extensive travels, T. channelled that kinetic energy straight back into creativity, undertaking an intensive period of writing and production in early 2010. With new production partner Stefan Eichinger aka LOPAZZ, DJ T. devoted the greater part of the year to Eichinger’s Heidelberg studio, and the resulting album Pleasure Principle – due for release in spring 2011 – is T.’s most accomplished work yet.
